“Where did my uterus go?”

This is a question not often heard. Here is said organ:

I just can’t resist snapping pics of these strange things. We had a lab simulation for postpartum/neonate assessment today, hence the uterus and vulva at front and center, here. This week has kicked my butt. I spent the weekend studying HARD for tests Monday and Wednesday because I was sure my OB project mom was going to deliver (she was in the hospital with preterm labor all weekend). But she went home! Monday morning I had a patho-pharm test (51 out of 49), Tuesday had clinicals all day, and today had class all day including a peds exam, on which I’m guessing I got a low A/high B. It contained minutiae that I didn’t study because it bored me. That’s pathetic, but I couldn’t make myself memorize what age a baby can roll over one way versus the other. I’m awful about learning things that bore me. The diseases and stuff I’m interested in, so that part of the test went fine. My clinical day was good; I felt I gave good patient care and the patient agreed. I’m having the hardest time getting the hang of time management in the hospital. Seems like just when I go to do something my patient is whisked away for a procedure or something. Whatever. I’ll get some sleep tonight unless my OB mom calls…if she does I’ll be schlepping to a hospital an hour away for her L&D. If that happens I hope the adrenaline will keep me going! I still haven’t seen a baby born. :)

Seeing the babies being born is awesome. Hence my calling as a CNM. I have a validation today that I’m not really nervous about. Monday we have our first assessment test. Blah. I think I will be spending my weekend studying.

    Good job on slogging through!

Best to your OB mom and you. Seeing a vag birth is great.

Tip: if you end up in the OR for a C-section, it’s not the sights so much as the smell that’s so rough. Think toenails set on fire and you get in the neighborhood.

    Good luck!

You know, I’ve been looking forward to this birth for weeks now, and I’ve never even met the woman. Please, please blog it? (You need not, however, live-blog it.)
